Capcom announced on Tuesday that its latest title, Monster Hunter Wilds, has achieved over eight million copies sold across all platforms within just three days of its launch, making it the fastest-selling game in the company’s history. Following its remarkable debut, Monster Hunter Wilds is poised to become one of the best-selling games of 2025, having shattered records on the PC gaming platform Steam.
Monster Hunter Wilds Achieves Sales Milestone
The company attributed the game’s record-setting sales to its global marketing efforts, which successfully engaged a wide audience. Capcom highlighted its strategies, including participation in various international gaming events and hosting an online open beta, allowing many players to experience the game ahead of its release. This outreach included ongoing updates shared through online showcases, like the Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase, which helped generate excitement around the title.
“Thanks to our sustained global initiatives, Monster Hunter Wilds has captured tremendous attention and reached sales of 8 million units in just three days, breaking our previous records,” Capcom stated in a press release. “We are dedicated to meeting the expectations of our users by harnessing our top-tier game development expertise to deliver engaging gameplay experiences.”
The initial sales performance of Monster Hunter Wilds has outpaced that of its predecessor, Monster Hunter: World, which sold five million copies within the same timeframe following its release in January 2018. While Monster Hunter: World holds the title of Capcom’s highest-selling game, with total sales exceeding 21.3 million units, Wilds is quickly making its mark.
On launch day, Monster Hunter Wilds also achieved a historic peak of one million concurrent players on Steam, surpassing the player counts of major titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Currently, it ranks as the fifth most-played game in Steam’s history, with an all-time peak of 1,384,608 concurrent users. The game is available on multiple platforms, including PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
