In May, Microsoft revealed that the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the latest installment in the acclaimed first-person shooter series from Activision, is set to be available on Xbox Game Pass upon its release in October. However, it appears that players may have access to another Call of Duty title even sooner, as reports suggest that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 could be added to Xbox Game Pass this month.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Set for Game Pass
A report from Insider Gaming indicated on Monday that last year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is expected to launch on Xbox Game Pass later this month, although it did not specify an exact date. The publication noted, “Insider Gaming couldn’t verify an exact release date by the time of publication, but several sources have suggested it will be in the latter half of this month.”
This information was later supported by Windows Central; however, as of now, neither Microsoft nor Activision has confirmed the addition of Modern Warfare 3 to the Game Pass lineup.
Currently, no Call of Duty titles are available on Microsoft’s subscription service. In the previous year, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, stated that titles from Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard franchises would not make their debut on Xbox Game Pass until 2024 due to regulatory issues that delayed the acquisition of Activision. Spencer explained that Microsoft needed to finalize the acquisition before being able to incorporate Activision titles into the Game Pass catalog.
Black Ops 6 to Launch on Game Pass Day One
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is set to become the first game in the franchise to be available on Game Pass from day one, launching on October 25. The latest entry, Modern Warfare 3, which debuted on November 10 of last year, is the most recent title in the series. Additionally, older Call of Duty games are expected to be gradually introduced to Game Pass, although a specific timeline for this has not been disclosed by Microsoft.
In related news, Microsoft recently raised the prices of Xbox Game Pass across various regions and subscription tiers just ahead of the Black Ops 6 launch. The company also introduced a new ‘Standard’ tier for the service, which will not include new first-party titles at launch.
