Microsoft announced on Tuesday that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be available on Game Pass starting July 24. This first-person shooter will be accessible on Game Pass for Console, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate, confirming prior speculation that the game would be included in the subscription service this month.
Modern Warfare 3 Debuts on Game Pass
Launched in November 2022, Modern Warfare 3 marks the first Call of Duty title to join Xbox Game Pass. Players will have the opportunity to experience this latest installment before the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 on October 25, which will also be available on Game Pass from day one.
This announcement follows Microsoft’s recent decision to increase the price of Xbox Game Pass and introduce a new ‘Standard’ subscription tier, which will exclude new games at launch. The price adjustment comes just before the addition of popular Call of Duty titles to the service, with Black Ops 6 set to be the first COD game offered on launch day through Game Pass.
Activision-Blizzard Games Arriving on Game Pass
This year, Microsoft has gradually incorporated titles from the Activision-Blizzard lineup into Game Pass following the $69 billion acquisition of the gaming giant in 2023. Notable additions include Diablo IV, which was added to the service in March.
In a statement last year, Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, indicated that titles from Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard franchises would not be available on Xbox Game Pass until 2024 due to regulatory challenges that had postponed the acquisition. Spencer noted that further integration of Activision-Blizzard titles into the Game Pass lineup would only occur after completing the acquisition process.
Additionally, reports have emerged this week suggesting that Microsoft is considering new Game Pass tiers, which may include a Cloud-only version, family and friends plans, and a free ad-supported option.
