Microsoft is set to introduce Copilot for Gaming, an innovative AI-powered assistant tailored for Xbox gamers. According to a recent blog post by the company based in Redmond, Washington, this new feature aims to streamline the gaming experience by assisting users in locating tutorials and in-game help. The assistant will also be able to comprehend natural language commands for installing or updating games, alongside providing players with progress summaries. Initially, Copilot for Gaming will be accessible through smartphones, with Xbox Insiders receiving early access to the service.

Enhanced Gaming Experience with Tailored Support

Fatima Kardar, Xbox’s Corporate Vice President of Gaming AI, described Copilot for Gaming as an AI-driven assistant designed to enhance player experiences. It will assist users in setting up games on their consoles, recommend new titles, offer in-game support, and facilitate social interactions. “It will provide gamers with a personalized experience based on their individual preferences and behaviors,” Kardar noted in her comments.

With the release of Copilot for Gaming, users will have the capability to issue natural language commands, such as “I want to get back into Age of Empires, can you install it?” This will prompt the assistant to begin downloading the game on their Xbox console. Players will also be able to request updates on their progress in current games or check for updates directly through the AI assistant.

The new feature aims to provide contextual support whenever gamers need assistance, based on their current activities. “It’s not just about AI appearing to assist; it’s about delivering help at the precise moment it’s needed. We must carefully consider user experience to ensure it remains unobtrusive,” Kardar explained.

Users will have the ability to customize the operation of the AI assistant, and participation in the feature will be optional. Initially, it will roll out on mobile devices through the Xbox Insider Program, with future expansions to additional platforms planned.

Support for Xbox Play Anywhere Expands

Jason Ronald, Vice President of Next Generation at Microsoft, reported that more than 1,000 games now support the Xbox Play Anywhere initiative. This allows players to access titles purchased on one platform (Xbox) on their Windows PCs without needing to buy them again.

According to Ronald, Xbox Play Anywhere titles provide “over 20 percent more gameplay” compared to other offerings. Gamers also benefit from features such as the synchronization of progress, saves, and achievements between their Xbox and PC platforms.
