Today, Microsoft is enhancing its Teams platform with a significant expansion of AI functionalities, introducing new Copilot assistants designed to support every channel, meeting, and community within the application. These advanced AI agents will also integrate with SharePoint and Viva Engage, becoming accessible to users of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
The newly developed facilitator agents will participate in Teams meetings, where they will be responsible for creating agendas, documenting meeting notes, and responding to participant inquiries. These agents are capable of recommending time allocations for discussion topics, notifying attendees if discussions exceed their allotted time, and generating relevant documents and tasks. For mobile users, a simplified activation method will allow them to engage the agents with just a tap, ensuring no critical in-person discussions are missed.
Channel agents are designed to provide answers drawn from a channel’s history of discussions and meetings while also producing project status reports in a similar manner. Additionally, community agents within Viva Engage will assist community administrators by responding to user questions, while knowledge agents will operate in the background on SharePoint, organizing, tagging, and summarizing various files.
While facilitator agents are currently available, their functionalities for document and task creation remain in public preview alongside the other newly introduced agents. These new features are complemented by an updated Workflows tool geared towards automating tasks using AI, as well as a system to produce audio summaries based on meeting notes.
