In a significant update, Microsoft has confirmed that the upcoming Call of Duty installment will be available on Xbox Game Pass from its launch date. Coinciding with this announcement, the company revealed a price increase for its game subscription service, which will take effect on July 10 for new subscribers. The tech giant also introduced a new tier, known as Xbox Game Pass Standard, which will not provide access to first-party titles on launch day.
Revised Xbox Game Pass Pricing
In India, the monthly fee for Game Pass Ultimate is set to rise from Rs. 549 to Rs. 829. This subscription allows gamers to access a vast library of games, enjoy day-one releases, and benefit from various other perks on both Xbox consoles and PCs. Furthermore, the annual subscription cost for Game Pass Core will increase from Rs. 1,999 to Rs. 3,349. This lower-cost tier offers users a selection of games and online multiplayer access on Xbox consoles. Additionally, the monthly price for the PC Game Pass will go up from Rs. 249 to Rs. 449. A full list detailing price adjustments across different regions can be found here.
New Game Pass members will notice these price changes immediately, while current subscribers will see the increased rates applied to their recurring charges starting September 12.
Introduction of Game Pass Standard
The new Game Pass Standard tier will offer Xbox players access to a wide range of titles and the perks associated with Game Pass Core, including online multiplayer and discounts. However, this tier will not feature day-one access to new first-party releases. Game Pass Standard is expected to be priced at $14.99 (approximately Rs. 1,251) and will be available in the coming months.
Moreover, Microsoft has decided to phase out Game Pass for Console for new subscribers. Current users of the console-specific tier, who have automatic renewal set up, will retain their subscription benefits. The company stated that these changes aim to enhance the overall value and game offerings within the Game Pass service.
This announcement comes after Microsoft’s earlier confirmation that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the next chapter in Activision’s renowned first-person shooter series, will be offered on Game Pass from its launch day on October 25.
This increase marks the second adjustment in Xbox Game Pass pricing, following last July’s hike, which raised Game Pass Ultimate costs in India from Rs. 499 to Rs. 549.
