Microsoft is rolling out a new feature in the Photos app that aims to enhance photo organization on Windows 11. An upcoming update for all Windows 11 Insiders on Copilot Plus PCs will incorporate an AI-driven tool designed to automatically categorize images such as receipts, screenshots, identification documents, and handwritten notes into distinct folders.

According to Microsoft, this feature will intelligently sort images based on their visual elements, irrespective of the language used in any text contained within the photo. For instance, a picture of a Hungarian passport will be placed in the identity documents folder, just like any English-language ID.

After the categorization is complete, users will find newly created folders within the Categories section of the left navigation bar of the Photos app. Currently, it can only sort images such as screenshots, receipts, identity documents, and notes. The feature could be even more beneficial with the option for users to specify additional categories, such as personal photos of pets or vacations.
