Meta’s new microblogging platform, Threads, officially launched on Thursday, quickly attracting over 50 million registrations within just a day. Users can access Threads using their Instagram login credentials, with the platform sending notifications whenever Instagram contacts follow them back. Additionally, users receive alerts for likes, replies, reposts, and mentions of their posts, though these continuous notifications may become overwhelming for some. Fortunately, there are several strategies to manage these alerts to enhance user experience on the app.

Threads integrates seamlessly with Instagram’s account system, allowing users to retain their usernames, followers, and verification status. The platform can be accessed via its desktop site at Threads.net or through mobile applications available for iOS and Android devices.

Currently, Threads sends out notifications for ten different activities including likes, replies, mentions, reposts, quotes, first threads, new followers, accepted follow requests, suggested accounts, and notifications for users previously followed when they join Threads.

Managing Notifications on Threads for Android

To reduce notification spam or manage those that are no longer useful on Android, follow these steps:

  1. Open your profile page on Threads and select the Menu button located at the top-right corner.

  2. Choose Pause all or adjust settings under Threads and replies or Following and followers. Users can select from five durations — 15 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, or 8 hours to mute notifications.

  3. Within the Threads and replies setting, options include: everyone, people you follow, or disabling notifications entirely.

  4. For Following and followers, users have the option to turn all notifications on or off.

The information provided can greatly assist those looking to enjoy Threads without being overwhelmed by frequent notifications. The app allows posts of up to 500 characters, including links, photos, and videos, which can also be shared directly to Instagram stories. Similar to Instagram, users can choose to set their profile to “Private.” The platform is anticipated to introduce additional features in the near future.
