Meta has announced it is currently testing a feature for Threads that will enable users to schedule their posts. The company has not specified when this feature will officially roll out. Additionally, Instagram, another platform under Meta’s umbrella, has discreetly introduced the capability to schedule direct messages. This will allow users to plan the timing of their text messages in DMs.
Threads Scheduling Feature
Through its official account on Threads, the platform revealed that a new scheduling feature is being trialed with a small group of users. A broader rollout is anticipated, though a specific timeline for availability has yet to be provided.
In order to schedule a post on Threads, users will need to click on the three-dot menu in the post composer interface, select the date and time they wish for the post to go live, and then tap Schedule. Scheduled posts will be stored in the drafts folder, complete with a note indicating the chosen publication time. Threads has confirmed that users can edit or delete these scheduled posts prior to their publishing time if necessary.
Instagram DM Scheduling
On the Instagram front, the platform has quietly launched a feature that permits users to schedule direct messages. This functionality was first identified by social media expert Lindsey Gamble.
To utilize this new feature, users must open a chat and write their message. By long-pressing the send button, a dialogue box will prompt them to select a date and time for the message to be sent. Once a message is scheduled, a notification will appear in the chat indicating “1 scheduled message.” Users can set multiple messages for future sending within a single chat. It is important to note that the scheduling will reflect the time zone of the sender’s device.
Instagram has specified that currently, only text-only messages can be scheduled. Messages containing media such as photos, videos, or GIFs are not eligible for scheduling. This feature is accessible to users on both iOS and Android platforms.
