Meta has introduced a long-awaited feature in Messenger that allows users to share high-quality photos. Announced on Tuesday, April 9, this upgrade enables users to activate the HD toggle before sending images. This functionality mirrors a similar feature already available on WhatsApp. In addition to high-quality images, Meta is enhancing Messenger by allowing the creation of shared albums in chats and enabling the transfer of larger files.

The company, led by Mark Zuckerberg, detailed these new capabilities in a blog post. These enhancements aim to enrich conversations by allowing users to send HD photos, formulate shared albums, and now share files up to 100MB directly within chats. Furthermore, an update will enable users to connect with others using QR codes available in the Messenger settings.

To utilize the new HD photo-sharing option, users need to activate the HD toggle and select Send after choosing an image from the chat composer. They can also select multiple images to send them in high definition. WhatsApp had previously started providing HD photo support in September 2023.

In addition, Messenger users can create shared albums for photos and videos with their friends and family. Users can initiate an album in a group chat by selecting several photos from the chat composer and clicking on Create Album. Alternatively, they can create an album by long-pressing a photo and selecting the same option. To add images to an existing album, users simply tap on Add to album, and they can also rename their albums.

All participants in the chat can view, add, delete, and download images and videos from the shared album, which can be accessed by tapping the Media button in the conversation.

Moreover, Messenger is now providing a convenient alternative to email for sharing large files, including Word, PDF, and Excel documents. With the latest update, users can share files up to 100MB by selecting the + button in the menu.

Finally, the platform is making it easier for users to connect with others by allowing them to scan Messenger QR codes available in the Settings menu. Users can also share their QR codes via a link, streamlining the process of initiating a chat without the need to type in the recipient’s name or number.
