Meta has unveiled a suite of innovative video editing tools powered by artificial intelligence. This feature, available for a limited free period, offers users over 50 preset prompts that enable them to creatively modify videos, including adjusting themes, backgrounds, and even clothing.
The prompts function similarly to Instagram filters, allowing users to transform clips into various styles such as video games or anime. Users can simulate different environments, like desert settings, or dress themselves in AI-generated attire, although the feature is limited to editing only the initial 10 seconds of any video. The rollout is currently taking place in the United States and over a dozen additional countries via the Meta AI app, the Meta.AI website, and the Edits app.
In a personal trial of the feature, I found my outcomes differed significantly from the showcased examples on Meta’s website. After uploading a video of my parents’ dogs digging in the backyard and applying the desert theme, the AI altered the ground to an orange hue, added purple cacti, and gave the dogs an unusual shimmery effect. Additionally, when I adjusted a video of myself to reflect an anime style, the AI exaggerated my features with fluorescent pink eyes and lips.
Edited videos can be shared directly to Facebook and Instagram, as well as featured in the Discover feed within the Meta AI app. Currently, users are unable to create custom prompts, but Meta plans to introduce this feature later in the year, allowing for more personalized editing options alongside the AI tools.
