In July of this year, Threads was made publicly available, drawing considerable attention upon its launch. To foster engagement on the fledgling platform, Meta began promoting Threads posts on its larger platforms, Facebook and Instagram. Users of these social networks frequently see Threads content recommended on their Home feeds. Meta’s aim was to encourage downloads of the Threads app and stimulate interaction with shared posts. However, this strategy faced pushback from Threads users, prompting Meta to introduce an option to opt out of automatic sharing of Threads content on its other platforms.
User Jorge Caballero (@datadrivenmd) highlighted this new feature in a recent Threads post. The option allows Threads users to prevent their posts from appearing in suggestions on Facebook and Instagram. This feature can be found in a new section labeled Suggesting posts on other apps, located within the Privacy settings.
Users now have the ability to disable the suggestion of their Threads posts on either Facebook or Instagram, or on both platforms if they choose. This update has begun rolling out and has been confirmed to be available on the Android app. Users who do not yet see this option should ensure they have the latest version of the application installed.
In other developments, Threads has recently added a complimentary Edit button, which allows users to revise their posts within a five-minute window. After this time frame, no further edits can be made, and any edit history will not be displayed.
Additionally, the platform has introduced the Voice Threads feature, enabling users to post recorded voice messages, similar to the voice note function found on WhatsApp.
