Meta has announced that it is in the process of testing a new functionality for its platform Threads, enabling users to schedule their posts. The timeframe for the full release of this feature has not been disclosed. Additionally, Instagram, another platform under Meta’s umbrella, has discreetly rolled out a scheduling option for direct messages, allowing users to set a time for sending texts in DMs.
Threads Schedule Posts Feature
The microblogging platform informed users through its official handle that it is developing a scheduling feature for posts. Currently, this functionality is being tested with a limited number of users. A wider rollout is anticipated soon, although no specific dates have been provided.
According to Meta, scheduling a post on Threads involves clicking on the three-dot menu within the Post composer, selecting the desired date and time for publication, and confirming by tapping Schedule. Scheduled posts will be stored in the drafts section, complete with a note indicating their planned release time. Users will have the ability to modify or remove scheduled posts prior to their publishing.
Instagram Direct Message Scheduling
Instagram has quietly implemented a feature that enables users to schedule direct messages. The functionality was first noticed by social media specialist Lindsey Gamble and is now accessible to users of the platform.
To use this new option, Instagram users will need to enter a chat, compose a message, and perform a long press on the send button. A prompt will then appear, allowing them to select a date and time for sending the message. After scheduling, a confirmation will appear in the chat indicating “1 scheduled message.” Users can schedule multiple messages in a single chat, with the time reflecting the timezone settings of the sender’s device.
Instagram notes that this scheduling feature is limited to text-only messages. Users will not be able to schedule messages that include images, videos, or GIFs. This functionality is accessible to both iOS and Android users.
