Meta Platforms has pushed back the anticipated release of its “Behemoth” AI model amid rising concerns regarding its performance, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal on Thursday, which referenced sources close to the situation.

Engineers within the company are finding it challenging to enhance the capabilities of the Behemoth large-language model, leading to doubts among staff about whether the projected improvements over previous versions are substantial enough to warrant a public unveiling, the report indicated.

Originally, the Behemoth model was slated for release in April to align with Meta’s first AI conference for developers. However, this internal deadline was later revised to June, and it has now been pushed to the fall or beyond, according to the report.

A request for comment from Meta was not immediately met with a response from the company.

In April, Meta had showcased Llama 4 Behemoth, describing it as “one of the smartest LLMs in the world and our most powerful yet to serve as a teacher for our new models.”

That same month, it launched the latest versions of its Llama large-language model, named Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick.
