The Meta AI app, a platform developed by the tech giant that integrates artificial intelligence with social interaction, faced scrutiny last week due to reports and user feedback indicating its Discover feed was showcasing numerous private conversations. In response to this feedback, Meta is now taking measures to enhance user awareness regarding the sharing of content on the platform. Users are now greeted with a warning message upon attempting to share a post, alerting them that the shared content will be publicly visible.

As first highlighted by Business Insider, the updated Meta AI app displays a cautionary message whenever users opt to share a conversation publicly. Staff from Gadgets 360 have confirmed the presence of this warning while testing the sharing function themselves. This initiative could be part of the larger set of safety measures being introduced by the company to prevent the unintentional dissemination of personal information.

This warning is triggered when users tap the “Share” button located at the top right corner of the interface. A full-screen pop-up appears, stating, “Prompts that you post are public and visible to everyone. Your prompts may be suggested by Meta on other Meta apps.” The message advises users to refrain from sharing any personal or sensitive details.

Additionally, a hyperlink labeled “Manage Settings” is present alongside the warning. This link directs users to a settings menu where they can adjust whether their prompts can be suggested on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. After viewing this message, users must click the center of the screen to activate the “Post to feed” button, allowing them to share content to the Discover feed.

Interestingly, some staff members at Gadgets 360 noted that they encountered the warning message upon their initial attempts to share posts; however, it did not appear on subsequent tries. Overall, the frequency of the warning displays appears to be increasing.

The report from Business Insider also indicated a trend toward more image-based posts and a decrease in text posts, which could be a strategy by Meta to limit the sharing of personal content. However, verification of this assertion remains unconfirmed.

Moreover, image posts shared on the Meta AI app, particularly those featuring AI-modified versions of real images, raise their own privacy concerns. Recent reports have indicated that these posts may also include the original, unaltered image in their descriptions, which can be easily copied or saved by others.
