The highly anticipated Thermomix TM7 has made its debut in the United States, with a launch price of $1,699. As the successor to the popular TM6, which I have relied on for five years for a range of culinary tasks—from morning smoothies to dinner preparations—this new model promises to expand culinary possibilities.
This all-in-one kitchen machine justifies its steep price by replacing several countertop gadgets, offering an array of functions including weighing, chopping, whisking, steaming, sautéing, slow cooking, and even fermenting. One of its most notable enhancements is the much larger 10-inch touchscreen, which operates on a faster multicore processor. Nevertheless, I have concerns about the absence of a physical dial, as the touchscreen will house all device controls and access to 200 built-in guided cooking recipes as well as many more available through a Cookidoo subscription priced at $65 annually.
In addition to its touchscreen upgrade, the TM7 features a sleek all-black aesthetic, an open-lid cooking design, and a larger steaming basket. According to Vorwerk, the company behind Thermomix, the software platform for the new model has been completely rebuilt to support significant future enhancements, such as voice control.
With the launch of the TM7, the TM6 has been phased out, though Vorwerk has pledged to provide support for the discontinued model for a decade.
