Omi AI, a San Francisco-based technology company, introduced its innovative artificial intelligence (AI) companion during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025. The device, which is now available for pre-order, offers various wearable options. When paired with either Android or iOS smartphones, the device is programmed to continuously monitor its user and their environment. Omi AI positions this device not only as a companion for addressing questions but also as a mentor capable of taking notes and retaining information on behalf of the user. The company also hinted at a potential future update, suggesting that the device might eventually have the ability to interpret the user’s thoughts.
Omi AI Companion Is Available for Pre-Order
The wearable device is priced at $89 (approximately Rs. 7,640) and can be pre-ordered through the company’s website. It comes in six different colors and is anticipated to start shipping worldwide in the second quarter of 2025. Initially, upon launch, the device will feature audio-only capabilities.
Following the product launch, the company plans to offer users priority access to a separate module designed for “brain-computer interfaces,” which will likely come at an additional cost. Omi AI asserts that this module would enable the device to read the brain waves of its user.
According to a report by Technology News after a live product demonstration, the Omi AI companion demonstrates the capability to discern whether a user is speaking to the device or someone else. The company believes this feature will streamline the user experience, removing the need for wake words or prompts to activate the device. However, the publication noted that the full extent of this capability remained unverified.
Aside from its thought-reading feature, the Omi AI companion functions similarly to other AI devices, such as the Limitless Pendant and the Humane AI Pin. It can summarize meetings, answer user inquiries, conduct web searches for real-time information, and perform various chatbot tasks. To function, the device must remain connected to a smartphone.
Moreover, Omi has developed an app store that boasts over 250 applications. These apps act as plugins, allowing the device to transmit audio input to services like Google Drive. Interestingly, when activated, the Omi AI companion will listen continuously without requiring a wake word. However, users have the option to customize whether the device listens exclusively to them or to all surrounding sounds.
