Mozi, a new social media platform, has made its debut on iOS. Its founder asserts that it deviates from traditional media frameworks, primarily because users cannot upload photos or videos. The app’s standout feature is its ability to facilitate meaningful connections among users, whether they are familiar acquaintances or new contacts. Although only available on iOS at present, an interest list for Android users has been established, with the possibility of a launch soon.
Mozi Social App Restricts Photo and Video Uploads
In a Medium post, Ev Williams, the app’s founder, emphasized his aim to address the shortcomings of conventional social media, which often fails to facilitate genuine connections among users. His vision was to create an alternative platform focused on privacy and devoid of public profiles, follower counts, and interactions with strangers.
The outcome is Mozi, which breaks away from the conventions of typical social media applications. Currently, many platforms prioritize disseminating content in various formats to a broader audience, often including individuals outside a user’s immediate social circle. In contrast, Mozi excludes features like photo or video uploads and does not include influencers.
Williams articulated the core value of Mozi: “The primary value proposition of Mozi (today) is simple: It lets you know when you’re going to be in the same place (city or event) as someone you know. And the goal is straightforward: to connect more often — and in person — with the people you care about,” according to his Medium post.
The platform serves additional purposes as well. For example, Williams noted that Mozi assists users in making choices regarding event attendance. If several activities are occurring simultaneously over a weekend, users can quickly assess which event will attract more friends, helping them decide on their preferred plans.
Williams mentioned that Mozi had a soft launch several months ago within a “relatively small community.” Feedback has been predominantly positive, with users reporting successful meet-ups facilitated by the app.
Currently, Mozi does not allow users to create public profiles, make plans, or share any information publicly. All posts are only visible to mutual contacts, verified through phone numbers. Users have the option to designate plans for “close friends” and can remove any contacts from whom they do not receive interaction.
