The streaming platform Max, which is set to revert back to its original name HBO Max, is introducing a new feature that will automatically play video previews when users hover over different shows and movies. This update is currently being rolled out to users in the United States, while Max continues to develop an AI-driven tool designed to curate the clips featured in these previews.
In the forthcoming weeks, Max will utilize its AI technology to identify key scenes from its extensive library of content. These standout moments will be selected by the Max team to feature in the video previews. Avi Saxena, the chief technology officer at Warner Bros. Discovery, expressed in a press statement that this advanced technology will streamline the process of pinpointing highlight moments across Max’s diverse offerings, significantly cutting down the time traditionally required for manual curation.
Additionally, users will have the ability to mute the audio or video of the autoplaying previews, similar to the feature available on Netflix.
Max underwent a significant interface overhaul in January, moving options from its top menu bar to the left side of the screen, contrasting with Netflix’s planned homepage redesign. An additional update is expected in the summer, coinciding with the transition back to the HBO Max branding.
