Lightricks, a software firm specializing in image and video editing solutions, has unveiled an open-source artificial intelligence (AI) video model called LTX Video in a preview version. This innovative model is capable of generating medium-resolution videos in real time. While several large language models (LLMs) offer real-time video generation features, LTX Video marks the first instance of such a model being made open-source. The company confirmed that the complete version will be available free of charge for both personal and commercial applications, with integration capabilities into the LTX Studio.
Lightricks Introduces Open-Source AI Video Model
In a collection of updates shared on X (formerly Twitter), Lightricks elaborated on the features of its new open-source AI model. The LTX Video can accept text and image inputs, producing videos that last five seconds and have a resolution of 768 x 512 pixels. While the current version limits the output quality to medium resolution, it achieves near real-time generation with a delay of just four seconds—this performance is contingent on utilizing devices equipped with the Nvidia H100 GPU.

Lightricks asserts that the AI model excels in creating dynamic videos with impressive adherence to prompts and does not mandate high-end equipment for operation. Users intending to run LTX Video locally will require a GPU on par with the RTX 4090. The company also mentioned that the model’s architecture is founded on the Diffusion Transformer and is designed with only two billion parameters to maintain compactness.
The LTX Video model can currently be downloaded from platforms like GitHub, Hugging Face, and ComfyUI. Users interested in experiencing the model’s capabilities prior to downloading can visit the model page on Fal.ai here.
Moreover, the AI model offers the flexibility to integrate with various external editing tools, enhancing the customization of generated videos. Lightricks has also announced plans to release a comprehensive version of the tool, which will continue to be open-source and accommodate both individual and commercial uses. This full version will be integrated with LTX Studio, the company’s AI-driven storyboard platform.
