The Lenovo Legion Go handheld gaming console was introduced to a global audience at the IFA (Internationale FunkAusstellung Berlin) event in September. Equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen Z1 series processors, this Windows-based device is scheduled to hit the EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) markets later this month. While Lenovo has not provided official details regarding its launch in India, the Lenovo Legion India Instagram account appears to suggest that a regional release could occur next year.

Rishi Alwani, a well-known figure in the gaming industry, noted that the Lenovo Legion India account responded to an inquiry about the device’s availability. In a reply to a question from X (formerly Twitter) user Shanthosh Somasunthar (@SSomasunthar), the account indicated that the Legion Go is anticipated to debut in India in March 2024. Alwani shared a screenshot of this exchange on X, hinting at a potential launch timeframe. However, it is important to recognize that the Lenovo Legion India account referred to the console as a “Lenovo Legion Go laptop,” which might indicate a typographical error or a misunderstanding.

Currently, Lenovo has not revealed an official launch date or pricing for the Legion Go in the Indian market. In the EMEA region, the handheld is priced at EUR 799, which translates to approximately Rs. 70,000, and it will be offered in a Shadow Black color option.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding its launch, gaming enthusiasts in India may have reason to be optimistic. Although handheld consoles represent a niche segment within India’s growing gaming market, popular devices such as the Nintendo Switch and the Steam Deck continue to attract a dedicated fan base. Even with no official representation in India from Nintendo and Valve, import models of these handhelds are widely available through third-party sellers on e-commerce platforms. In July, Asus made its move into the Indian market by launching the ROG Ally handheld gaming device. Priced at Rs. 69,990, this model features an AMD Z1 Extreme processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a 7-inch LCD display, and can be purchased through the Asus e-shop or Flipkart, as well as company-specific Asus and ROG retail outlets.

The Lenovo Legion Go boasts an 8.8-inch QHD+ display with support for refresh rates up to 144Hz. It operates on Windows 11 Home, layered with Legion Space software. Powered by the latest AMD Ryzen Z1 processors, it comes equipped with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and can offer storage options up to 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. Furthermore, the storage capacity can be expanded to 2TB through a microSD card slot.
