Lenovo introduced its entry-level artificial intelligence (AI) inferencing server on Sunday, named the ThinkEdge SE100. This cutting-edge device is tailored for edge computing and targets small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and enterprises. Unveiled in advance of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, the ThinkEdge SE100 is a significant addition to Lenovo’s new ThinkSystem V4 Servers. The company asserts that its proprietary technology ensures secure processing of AI workloads while optimizing power consumption.

In an official press release, Lenovo shared details about the ThinkEdge SE100 AI inferencing server. This device is powered by Intel’s Xeon 6 processors and features Lenovo’s Neptune liquid cooling system along with the Neptune Core Compute Complex Module. According to the company, this configuration results in enhanced workload efficiency, with reduced fan noise and lower power requirements. The server is designed to operate with lower airflow demands, facilitating deployment across various environments.

The ThinkEdge SE100 is specifically engineered for edge computing, a paradigm that minimizes reliance on centralized data centers by bringing computation and data storage closer to the end devices. This approach offers key benefits such as decreased latency and enhanced response times, making it particularly beneficial for applications that depend on real-time data processing.

Additionally, the server incorporates Lenovo’s Open Cloud Automation (LOC-A) and a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC). It also features the latest version of the XClarity management platform, enabling centralized monitoring, configuration, and troubleshooting capabilities.

Lenovo highlights that the ThinkEdge SE100 is 85 percent smaller and delivers double the power of a standard 1U server. Its versatile design allows it to be installed on desktops, ceilings, walls, or within 1U racks. Users can configure it with up to six or eight performance cores, and even in its most powerful GPU setup, it reportedly stays below 140W, thereby promoting energy efficiency.

Furthermore, the server accommodates hybrid cloud setups and machine learning functions suited for various AI tasks like object detection and text recognition. Lenovo provided examples of its application: retailers can leverage the ThinkEdge SE100 for inventory management, manufacturers for quality assurance and warehouse oversight, and healthcare facilities for process automation, lab data management, and back-office operations.
