The remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is reportedly continuing its development under Saber Interactive. Initially announced for the PlayStation 5 in 2021, the project has experienced a rocky development history, which included a studio change and an indefinite delay. However, Saber Interactive confirmed last year that the remake remained active. Following nearly a year of silence, the developers have now shared a progress update on the project.
KOTOR Remake Remains in Development
In a recent conversation with Game File (via VGC), Saber Interactive’s CEO, Matt Karch, confirmed that development on the KOTOR remake is ongoing, although he did not offer additional details. At this juncture, no official information regarding the game’s release date has been made available.
Additionally, last week, Saber CCO Tim Willits indicated that the Knights of the Old Republic remake remains viable. He emphasized the company’s commitment to its projects in a post on X (formerly Twitter) last Friday.
Saber Interactive is one of the largest independent developers in the world. We are working on numerous games across many different genres. Everything that we have talked about is still in development. We will share information on upcoming games when we have something cool to…

This latest update follows comments made by Karch nearly a year ago, where he assured that the game was “alive and well” after Saber Interactive’s split from Embracer Group. In an interview from April 2024, he stated, “What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we’re dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations.”
In March 2024, Embracer Group transferred Saber Interactive to a company owned by Karch for $247 million (approximately Rs. 2,145 crore), allowing the studio to retain the rights to the Knights of the Old Republic remake. Nevertheless, updates about the title’s progress have been limited.
Originally, the remake was under development by Aspyr but was put on an indefinite hold in 2022 after three years of work. The project eventually moved from Aspyr to Saber Interactive later that year. A Bloomberg report suggested that 2025 was a realistic target for the game’s release, but without any fresh confirmation on a launch date, it seems highly improbable that the KOTOR remake will debut this year.
The remake was first unveiled for PS5 and PC at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021. The original Knights of the Old Republic, created by BioWare, launched on Xbox and PC in 2003.
