On Tuesday, JioTele OS was introduced as a new operating system designed specifically for smart TVs. Aimed at becoming an alternative platform for households with connected TVs in India, JioTele OS will leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to provide tailored content recommendations. This OS is expected to be compatible with popular over-the-top (OTT) applications, and Jio promises a seamless integration of global and regional content. Additionally, users can anticipate regular software updates for enhanced functionality. However, it remains unclear whether JioTele OS is built on Google’s Android TV framework.

Features of JioTele OS

Details from Jio reveal that JioTele OS will support traditional TV channels alongside well-known OTT platforms. Furthermore, the operating system will enable cloud-based gaming on supported smart TVs. All functionalities can be accessed through a single remote control, allowing for a streamlined user experience.

The OS is set to offer AI-driven recommendations for content, although specifics on what these recommendations will rely upon—such as viewing history or current trends—have yet to be disclosed by the company.

Jio emphasizes the new OS’s potential for “seamless integration” of both regional and international content. Claims have also been made regarding the capacity for “lag-free 4K performance” on compatible smart TVs, although this performance may vary depending on the individual hardware specifications of each device.

Continuing its commitment to user experience, Jio has pledged to deliver regular software updates for JioTele OS, which will support new applications and content formats. These updates are anticipated to enhance security for smart TVs operating on the platform as well.

Launch and Availability

Smart TVs featuring JioTele OS are set to hit the market on February 21. Customers will have the option to purchase select models from brands such as BPL, JVC, Kodak, and Thompson. Jio is also in talks with additional original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to ensure more models support JioTele OS in the upcoming months.
