The upcoming iPhone 17 Air is reportedly in development and is poised to be Apple’s slimmest iPhone to date. This new model is anticipated to take the place of the iPhone 16 Plus and is expected to be unveiled in September alongside the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. A recent leak has surfaced in the form of a dummy video, providing insight into the design of the iPhone 17 series. When placed alongside the other iPhone 17 models and the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 17 Air appears notably thin, featuring a single camera positioned in the top left corner of its rear panel.
Anticipated Design and Specifications of the iPhone 17 Series
According to AppleTrack’s Sam Kohl, an eight-minute YouTube video highlights dummy units of the anticipated iPhone 17 series. The video delivers a comprehensive overview of the rumored specifications for the iPhone 17 lineup, drawing from various sources and leaks. It corroborates previous reports regarding the design elements of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The video showcases the iPhone 17 Air with a sleek silhouette and a single rear camera unit. It features a wide camera bar reminiscent of Google’s Pixel smartphones. Kohl compares the new model to the iPhone 16 Pro, noting that the iPhone 17 Air appears almost half the thickness while maintaining a sizeable 6.6-inch display.
Thin buttons on the iPhone 17 Air are also suggested by Kohl. This model incorporates a Camera Control feature akin to that found on last year’s iPhone 16 Pro. The off-centre USB Type-C port is depicted as being located closer to the back than the front of the device, which also has fewer speaker holes along its lower edge.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models feature an updated camera island that spans the full width of the devices, housing a triple rear camera setup. Adjustments have been made to the arrangement of the flash and LiDAR sensor, with Kohl hinting at modifications to the third telephoto sensor in the iPhone 17 Pro series.
Kohl notes that these dummy units do not exhibit any rumored alterations, such as a new MagSafe cutout, a unibody design, or aluminum sides that could replace the current Titanium construction of the Pro models. He speculates that these omissions may be linked to the manufacturing process of the dummy units or the schematics used in their creation.
The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to retain their display sizes of 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, mirroring the dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max respectively. Their button placements and Dynamic Island notch will likely maintain familiarity with previous generations. Moreover, the standard iPhone 17 is rumored to keep the recognizable design language seen in the iPhone 16.
