As the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 approaches, speculation around potential announcements is intensifying. A recent report indicates that iOS 19, the forthcoming operating system update for the iPhone, is set to introduce a feature aimed at simplifying the transfer of eSIMs from iPhones to Android devices. This functionality was allegedly uncovered within the code of an application included in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update released last week.

eSIM Transfer from iPhone to Android

The revelation emerged from Google’s SIM Manager app after the deployment of the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 update, according to Android Authority. Code snippets hint that the upcoming iOS 19 update may facilitate wireless eSIM transfers to Android phones. A new section titled Transfer to Android is expected to be integrated under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, mirroring Apple’s existing eSIM Quick Transfer feature that allows eSIMs to be moved between iPhones.

This anticipated feature is believed to generate a QR code that users will need to scan with the Android device. Reports suggest that this process may also require the input of a “session ID” and a passcode on the Android phone, although it is unclear if both will be provided by the iPhone.

One particular code string contains the message, "Still can't connect wirelessly?", implying that the transfer function relies on a wireless connection between the two devices. Should this connection fail, it could possibly be due to the iPhone not operating on the latest iOS 19 firmware.

Currently, transferring an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android device can be a cumbersome endeavor, often necessitating communication with the carrier or service provider to procure the necessary activation or QR code to initiate the process. In contrast, transferring eSIMs between two iPhones or two Android devices is typically much more straightforward.

If this new feature is confirmed to be part of iOS 19, Apple is likely to offer a preview during the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, set for next month. The company is expected to highlight its latest operating system updates, including iOS 19, during the conference’s opening keynote, showcasing all the new features and enhancements.
