The Browser Company introduced its latest development, an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) browser named Dia, on Wednesday. This new browser features an embedded AI chatbot capable of retrieving information from various tabs to assist users with their inquiries. This launch follows an earlier announcement that the company would cease support for its Arc browser, citing challenges in expanding its reach to a broader audience. Currently, Dia is available in beta for selected users on Mac devices.

Early Access for Arc Members

The official Dia account on X (formerly Twitter) shared details about the browser’s launch. Unlike Arc, Dia does not use vertical tabs; instead, it employs a more traditional layout with horizontal tabs at the top of the interface. According to its website, Dia operates similarly to a conventional browser, with the added functionality of an AI chatbot positioned within the right panel.

Initially teased in December 2024, Dia’s AI chatbot acts as a centralized system embedded throughout the browser. This allows users to engage with multiple open tabs simultaneously, facilitating responses to questions by referencing the information contained within any of those tabs. In a recently released YouTube video, the company referred to Dia as a browser equipped with extensive knowledge, provided the necessary information is available in one of the tabs。

The capabilities of the AI chatbot are diverse, encompassing tasks such as summarizing web pages, rephrasing emails and messages, and analyzing content to address specific inquiries. Additionally, it can summarize YouTube videos while providing timestamps, generate charts and tables for product comparisons across different tabs, and assist with page translations into various languages.

In a separate update on X, the company announced it is developing an experimental feature called History for Dia. This opt-in feature (which is turned off by default) enables users to query previously opened tabs. Once activated, users can retrieve this data by inputting @History in the text field, allowing them to ask questions like, “What videos did I watch yesterday?”

Currently, Dia is in beta testing for Arc members with early access privileges. It supports only macOS 14 and newer versions, running on devices equipped with Apple’s M1 chip or later. Arc members can download Dia here and create a new Dia account using their Arc email address to start using the browser.
