Instagram has introduced an innovative feature designed to provide users with greater customization options for their profiles. Titled “profile song,” this new capability allows users to select a song that reflects their mood or preferences. Users will have access to a wide array of licensed tracks to choose from, and for the launch of this feature, Instagram has partnered with American singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter.
Song on Profile Feature on Instagram
The official Instagram account unveiled the profile song feature in a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter). The selected song will be displayed directly below the user’s bio. Instagram clarified that while the audio does not autoplay, it can be activated by tapping on the music icon, though playback is limited to a 30-second clip.
As part of the rollout, Instagram is featuring a brief snippet of Carpenter’s new song “Taste,” which is part of her upcoming album slated for release this Friday. The selected song will remain on the user’s profile until they decide to change it. The profile song feature is accessible to all consumer and creator accounts, and the setup process is straightforward:
- Navigate to “Edit profile” from your Profile tab, then tap “Add music to your profile.”
- Search for your desired song or explore the “For You” section.
- Choose the song you wish to feature and select a clip duration.
- Users can opt for a 30-second section of the track.
Staff members at Gadgets 360 confirmed that the feature was available on the Android version of Instagram. However, it was not yet accessible on the iOS platform at the time of their review.
Other New Instagram Features
This latest addition follows a series of media-centric features rolled out by Instagram in recent months. In July, the platform introduced multi-audio tracks, enabling users to incorporate up to 20 different tracks into a single Instagram Reel. This feature also allows users to align audio with text and enhance their Reels using stickers, clips, and other creative elements. Furthermore, the app facilitates a fading effect, along with the option to overlap multiple audio clips.
The newly crafted audio mixes will be saved with proper attribution to the original creator, allowing not only the creators but also other users to utilize these mixed tracks.
