On October 6, Instagram marked its anniversary as it continues to expand and innovate. The popular app, owned by Meta, is set to introduce new features aimed at attracting Generation Z users. These updates are expected to enter the testing phase soon, with a potential rollout in the months ahead. Among the new creative tools are birthday reminders, audio notes, video notes via selfies, and multiple lists for Stories, all designed to enhance the user experience and facilitate content sharing among the younger demographic.
During a recent event in Delhi, Meta showcased these new Instagram features specifically tailored for Gen Z users.
Four New Features on Instagram for Gen Z Users
The first new feature focuses on birthdays. While Instagram has long allowed users to celebrate their friends’ birthdays, the upcoming enhancement will enable users to assist in remembering these special dates. This functionality includes the option to update profile pictures with new images or festive effects, such as confetti.
In addition, Instagram plans to streamline the process of sending notes. Users will soon have the option to create either audio notes or short video notes via selfies. This feature has garnered popularity on the platform as a quick method for sharing updates. The new Audio Notes will allow for voice recordings, while Selfie Video Notes will enable users to capture and share a brief video note that lasts for 24 hours.
Another highly anticipated addition is the Multiple Lists in Stories feature. Previously, users could only create a single list of Close Friends for sharing Stories. The new capability will allow users to curate multiple lists, tailoring content visibility for various groups such as university classmates or workplace colleagues. This enhancement will provide greater control over who can view each specific story.
