Instagram is exploring innovative strategies to encourage users to purchase verification badges. The platform, owned by Meta, has recently implemented a feature allowing users to curate their feeds based on all followed accounts or a select few favorites. In a recent update shared through Instagram head Adam Mosseri’s broadcast channel, it has been revealed that the company may soon introduce an option for users to view posts exclusively from verified accounts. This new functionality is in the testing phase, with Instagram actively seeking user feedback for further refinement.
In his communication with followers, Mosseri showcased three distinct options for feed preferences: content from those they follow, favorites, and Meta Verified users. This initiative aims to enhance visibility for businesses and content creators on the platform.
The feature, focused on enabling users to view Instagram reels and posts solely from Meta Verified accounts, is currently being tested and is available to a limited group of users. Instagram has not disclosed the criteria for this test group, nor is it clear whether access will be granted globally or limited to specific regions. The company plans to adjust the feature based on user responses.
This move could be interpreted as a strategic push for more users to opt for verified accounts. Meta’s latest policies permit users to obtain a verification badge through a subscription service. According to the company, the Meta Verified badge can be purchased through mobile apps for a monthly fee of ₹699 on iOS and Android, while verification via the web is offered at ₹599.
To qualify for Meta Verified on Instagram in India, individuals must be at least 18 years old and possess a government-issued ID that matches their Instagram or Facebook account in both name and photo.
