Instagram is poised to introduce new features for users in the near future. The social media platform is currently testing a function that allows users to tag a group of individuals in their Stories with a single mention. With the increasing popularity of the creator economy on Instagram globally, the platform is continually evolving its features to meet a wide variety of user needs. By August 2023, the platform boasted an estimated 2.3 billion active users worldwide.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, shared details about this upcoming feature on his broadcast channel, ‘IG Updates’. He explained that users will soon be able to add multiple followers to form a group; this means that instead of tagging individuals separately, they will have the ability to tag the entire group in their Stories.
Members of the group will receive mention notifications, allowing them to easily re-share the post on their own Stories as well.
“We’re testing a way to tag a group of people in a Story using a single mention. Once you create a group mention, it can be reused by anyone in the group to automatically tag everyone in any new Stories,” Mosseri said, as reported by Techlusive.
The timeline for when this feature will be available to users has not yet been revealed. According to the report from Techlusive, there is a possibility that the feature may first launch in the United States before being made accessible in other regions.
In September, Meta, Instagram’s parent company, unveiled a new application called ‘Threads’, which bears similarities to Twitter. Integrated with users’ Instagram accounts, Threads quickly achieved 100 million sign-ups, representing a significant competition to Elon Musk’s platform, now known as X. The new app has also begun rolling out features for its users, including a chronological ‘Following’ feed on both iOS and Android. Additionally, Mosseri has indicated that a web version of Threads is in development.
As part of its ongoing efforts to incorporate Metaverse features into its services, Meta has enabled users to use their Meta avatars during video calls on both Instagram and Messenger.
Furthermore, the company is reportedly in the process of testing in-app AI chatbots, offering users a selection of at least 30 different personalities to interact with.
Instagram is set to celebrate its 13th anniversary this October.
