On Monday, Instagram unveiled a new standalone application designed to enhance video editing capabilities for creators. Titled ‘Edits’, this mobile app offers a range of advanced tools aimed at providing users with greater creativity and accuracy than currently available on the platform. Key features of Edits include high-quality video capture, a dedicated section for drafts and videos, and adjustable camera settings that allow users to change resolution, frame rate, and dynamic range. Additionally, the app will incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) functionality to facilitate animation effects.
Introducing Instagram’s Edits App
In a recent post on Threads, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, highlighted the launch of the Edits app, aimed at users enthusiastic about smartphone video production. The app is designed to streamline the editing experience, allowing for the quick capture and editing of high-quality content. With Edits, creators can export videos without watermarks and share them on various platforms, including Instagram, in full 1080p quality. A new tab within the app will help users organize their drafts and videos efficiently.
The Edits app is currently available for pre-order on the iOS App Store, with plans for an Android release to follow. The official launch is anticipated for next month.
This innovative tool enables users to edit videos with single-frame accuracy. Creators can customize camera settings for frame rate, resolution, and dynamic range, and they will find enhanced flash and zoom functionalities compared to what Instagram currently provides. The app also features AI capabilities, including options for animations, and allows users to alter backgrounds with green screen effects or overlay additional video content.
Within the editing features, creators can choose from a variety of typefaces, sound effects, voice modulations, video filters, stickers, and other decorative elements. The app enhances audio quality by eliminating background noise, and it generates customizable captions automatically.
Beyond editing, the Edits app offers useful analytics for video performance. Users can monitor engagement through a live insights dashboard, which presents detailed metrics for both followers and non-followers, including skip rates. This information can assist creators in planning future video content based on audience preferences.
