Insta360, known for its successful Ace Pro action cameras, is entering the wireless microphone sector with the launch of its new product, the Insta360 Mic Air. This compact microphone, similar in dimensions to an Apple AirTag, is among the smallest and lightest wireless microphones currently on the market and boasts up to 10 hours of battery life.
Consumers can purchase the Insta360 Mic Air for $49.99 through the official online store and various retailers, including Amazon. Additionally, a bundle priced at $69.99 includes a USB-C receiver essential for wirelessly connecting the microphone to smartphones and Insta360’s gimbals.
At just 7.9 grams, the Mic Air is lighter than competitors such as the DJI Mic Mini (10 grams), Rode Wireless GO II (30 grams), and Shure MoveMic (8.2 grams). Designed for versatility, it can be attached to clothing with a clip, used with a magnetic backing, or suspended from a pendant strap. For individual users, it features integrated button controls for activating noise cancellation, starting or stopping video recordings, and muting, while the USB-C receiver allows for volume adjustments.
According to Insta360, the Mic Air can provide up to 10 hours of operation under optimal conditions with a range of 300 meters when used with its optional wireless receiver in an interference-free environment. However, if connected via Bluetooth to the Insta360 Ace Pro 2 or X5 8K 360-degree camera, battery life may drop to approximately 7.5 hours, with the operational range reducing to between 30 and 50 meters.
While Bluetooth is available, the USB-C receiver is necessary for connecting the Mic Air to smartphones, which could require an additional adapter for older iPhone models that only have a lightning port.
