Huawei is reportedly preparing to unveil its latest tri-fold smartphone, a successor to last year’s Mate XT Ultimate Design. While it was previously identified as the Huawei Mate XT 2, new leaks suggest it may officially launch as the ‘Huawei Mate XTs’. These recent reports also provide insights into the anticipated launch timeline and pricing for the innovative device, which is expected to be powered by the Kirin 9020 chipset. The Huawei Mate XTs is set to compete directly with Samsung’s forthcoming tri-fold smartphone.
Earlier this week, Weibo insider GuoJing (translated from Chinese) indicated that the Huawei Mate XTs tri-fold is expected to launch on September 12. This launch date coincides closely with the rumored unveiling of Apple’s iPhone 17 series, which is projected to occur between September 8 and 12. If the timing holds, the new Huawei foldable would make its debut nearly one year after the Mate XT Ultimate Design was introduced in China last September.
Expected Pricing for Huawei Mate XTs
According to a report by the Chinese publication CNMO, the Huawei Mate XTs is likely to be priced at approximately CNY 20,000, which translates to roughly Rs. 2,43,400. In comparison, last year’s Mate XT Ultimate Design was launched at CNY 19,999 for the base model featuring 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. This new model is anticipated to rival Samsung’s inaugural tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold.
Reports suggest that the Huawei Mate XTs will be equipped with HarmonyOS 5.1 and feature advancements such as an upgraded Tiangong dual-hinge system. The smartphone is expected to include a triple rear camera setup, highlighted by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with variable aperture capabilities, and a periscope telephoto sensor. Satellite connectivity options could also be available.
Recent leaks have pointed to a variety of color options for the Huawei Mate XTs, including black, purple, red, and white. The device is expected to retain the same 7.9-inch main display and a 5,600mAh battery as its predecessor, alongside the anticipated Kirin 9020 chipset.
Currently, Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design remains the only commercially available tri-fold smartphone. It made its global market debut in February of this year, priced at AED 12,999 (approximately Rs. 3,07,800) for the sole configuration of 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Additionally, Tecno has unveiled its Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, a tri-fold smartphone, although details regarding its commercial release are yet to be announced.
