A remastered edition of Horizon Zero Dawn has reportedly been in the works for quite some time, with recent indications that it has been rated by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). As of now, Sony has not made any official announcements regarding this remastered version of the game. The original action-adventure title, which debuted on PS4, saw a PC port release in 2020 under the name Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition.
ESRB Rating for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
A new ESRB listing has emerged online for Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, as reported by VGC. The listing indicates that the remaster is planned for release on both PlayStation 5 and PC. However, further details about the remastered edition have yet to be disclosed.
So far, neither Sony nor developer Guerrilla Games has confirmed the existence of the remastered version or offered any information on its release timeline. Nevertheless, the appearance of the ESRB listing provides strong evidence of its impending launch. In recent years, Sony has approved several remasters and remakes of its first-party titles, including both a remaster and a remake of The Last of Us. Earlier this year, a remastered edition of The Last of Us Part II was released on PS5, just three-and-a-half years after its initial launch on PS4.
In 2022, there were reports suggesting that a remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn was under development. This upcoming remaster is expected to include enhanced lighting, updated textures, and improved animations. The PS5 edition will also likely feature new accessibility options and quality-of-life enhancements, such as various graphic modes that allow players to prioritize either visual quality or performance.
It’s important to mention that Horizon Zero Dawn has previously received a patch that allows it to operate at 60 frames per second on PS5 through backward compatibility.
A sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, was launched on both PS4 and PS5 in 2022, with a PC version made available earlier this year. Additionally, Sony is preparing to release Lego Horizon Adventures, a spin-off game that reinterprets the story of Horizon Zero Dawn, on PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch later this year.
