Honor is gearing up for the global launch of its 400 series smartphones on May 22. As anticipation builds, the Chinese tech company has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that is set to debut with the smartphone lineup. The innovative AI-powered image-to-video tool aims to transform static images into animated video clips. Early reports suggest that this feature can generate videos lasting up to five seconds using a single image, with the technology being developed in collaboration with Google.
Honor 400 Series Set to Feature an AI Video Generator
In a recent update on X (formerly Twitter), Honor’s official global account highlighted the upcoming “AI Image to Video” functionality for its new smartphone series. The tool will be accessible across the entire 400 series, promising users the ability to “effortlessly transform your images into captivating videos,” according to the Huawei sub-brand.
The announcement was accompanied by a video demonstrating this AI tool’s capabilities. While details remain somewhat limited, a report from Huawei Central indicates that the feature relies on Google’s Veo 2 model, which was released earlier this year.
This tool essentially functions like a live photo feature that animates a video; however, it does not strictly use the original image as a creative foundation. Reports indicate that it can generate videos up to five seconds long from one static image.
Furthermore, the publication noted that the image-to-video tool supports both portrait and landscape formats, producing outputs within minutes. Users will be able to access this feature directly from the phones’ Gallery app. One potential limitation is the absence of a text prompt option, which would allow users to specify the creative direction for the video.
Initially, the image-to-video functionality will be available to users of the Honor 400 smartphones at no cost for the first two months, allowing up to 10 video generations per day. After this introductory period, it is anticipated that users may need to subscribe for continued access, potentially requiring a Google One AI Premium subscription.
