Netflix has announced that it will be bringing Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to its platform, starting December 14. This remastered collection features three landmark titles from Rockstar Games, allowing subscribers to access the games through mobile devices via the App Store, Google Play, and the Netflix app.

The trilogy, which debuted on PC and consoles on November 11, 2021, includes enhanced versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Each game has undergone visual improvements, gameplay enhancements, and quality of life upgrades to provide a modern gaming experience. Although the original versions of these games are currently available on iOS and Android, this marks the first occasion on which the remastered trilogy will be available on mobile platforms.

Netflix subscribers can pre-register to access the trilogy, as noted in the company’s announcement. The mobile versions of the remastered games will include all the enhancements featured in the console versions.

This announcement coincides with the anticipated unveiling of the trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, which Rockstar Games recently confirmed. The upcoming title has been highly anticipated and has faced numerous development challenges, including significant leaks and security breaches that revealed early gameplay footage.

Reports from last month indicated that Netflix was interested in expanding its gaming offerings by discussing the inclusion of a Grand Theft Auto title via a licensing agreement with Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company. Initially thought to involve a brand new mobile GTA game, these discussions have led to the mobile release of the remastered trilogy.

While mobile versions of the original GTA titles are available on both Android and iOS, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy bundle brings an updated experience. Currently, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas can be purchased separately in the App Store and Google Play Store, priced at Rs. 1,199 on the App Store. With the upcoming mobile release of the definitive edition, Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to enjoy these classic titles, complete with enhancements, at no additional cost.

Netflix continues to enhance its subscription value by expanding its library of high-quality games. The company’s gaming service now includes over 80 mobile titles across various genres, including successful releases like Laya’s Horizon and Oxenfree II: Lost Signals this year. Moreover, Netflix is exploring options for game streaming across different devices, including PCs, Macs, and smart TVs.

This month, Netflix also announced new games based on popular series such as Money Heist, Shadow and Bone, and The Dragon Prince, further diversifying its gaming offerings.

In India, mobile-only Netflix subscriptions start at Rs. 149 per month. The Basic plan, which streams at a lower 720p resolution, is available for Rs. 199 monthly, while the Standard plan costs Rs. 499 for full-HD streaming. The Premium plan, which offers 4K HDR streaming quality, is priced at Rs. 649.
