Grand Theft Auto 6 is anticipated to debut in 2025, with Take-Two Interactive recently specifying a release timeframe for the fall. In its earnings report for the fiscal year 2024, the company expressed optimism about the game’s launch schedule, with CEO Strauss Zelnick stating he is “highly confident” in the planned timing.
In an interview with CNBC, Zelnick highlighted the significance of the release calendar for Rockstar Games’ much-anticipated title. GTA 6 was first teased in a trailer released in December 2023, and Zelnick reiterated his belief that Take-Two is well-positioned for the projected release.
“There is slippage in the industry, and we’re not immune to it. Nevertheless, we have narrowed the timing because we are highly confident in that timing,” Zelnick noted during the discussion.
The CEO elaborated on how the publisher and the game developer determined the release window, mentioning aspects that can be quantifiably assessed, such as the number of bugs in the game. Zelnick emphasized the importance of minimizing issues before the game goes live.
“With an extraordinary title that comes with extraordinary expectations, it isn’t solely about addressing bugs,” he explained. “It’s fundamentally about crafting an experience that sets a new standard. Rockstar Games aims for perfection, which can be challenging to define since it is often more subjective than measurable.”
While GTA 6 has not yet received a specific release date, the initial trailer unveiled details about the game’s characters and environment, following numerous leaks prior to its announcement. Additional trailers that will showcase gameplay features are expected to be released in the lead-up to the launch.
During its latest quarterly earnings call, Take-Two confirmed the fall 2025 release timeline for GTA 6. The publisher also revealed plans to reduce its workforce by about 5 percent, which amounts to roughly 600 jobs, and announced the cancellation of several projects in order to streamline operations and reduce costs.
