Grok Imagine, a new multimodal feature with the capability to produce images and videos, was launched on Sunday. Currently in beta, the feature is accessible to all SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers using the iOS app. It includes a ‘Spicy’ mode designed to generate explicit, not-safe-for-work (NSFW) content. Users have begun sharing AI-generated media from this tool across various social media channels. This release follows closely behind xAI’s introduction of the AI Companion feature, which features two animated characters.
The Grok Imagine feature allows users to create images from text prompts or videos from images. Subscribers can upload their own images or utilize AI-generated visuals created through Grok. The video generation capability supports clips of up to 15 seconds with accompanying native audio, marking it as the second Western AI model to provide native audio generation, following Google’s Veo 3.
Grok Imagine has brought some of my favorite photos of my mom to life and I’m still blown away.
She passed away early 2002 so to see still photos of her accurately animated like this is especially moving.
This one is from the early 70s before I was born. Truly amazing. pic.twitter.com/SsfucqYajs

Grok Imagine features four distinct generation modes—Custom, Normal, Fun, and Spicy—allowing users to tailor their content creation experience. A voice mode is also available, which eliminates the need to type out prompts. Elon Musk, the owner of xAI, has referred to Grok Image as “AI Vine,” drawing a comparison to the now-defunct platform focused on short videos.
The Spicy mode has sparked significant curiosity and discussion online. While it can produce NSFW content, including adult imagery, user accounts suggest that nudity cannot be generated, leaving little to the imagination. This approach to explicit content generation sets Grok apart from more mainstream chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, which impose strict moderation on user outputs and strictly prohibit the creation of inappropriate images or videos. In a separate post, Musk claimed that within two days of Grok Imagine’s launch, it has already created 34 million images.
