On Sunday, xAI launched Grok Imagine, a new multimodal feature capable of producing images and videos. Currently in beta testing, the feature is accessible to all SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers through the iOS application. Among its highlights is a ‘Spicy’ mode that allows for the generation of not-safe-for-work (NSFW) content. Users have begun to share AI-generated media produced by the tool across various social media platforms. This development follows the release of the AI Companion feature, featuring two animated characters, less than a month earlier.
The Grok Imagine feature enables users to create images from text prompts and videos from images. Users can upload their own photos or choose from AI-generated images created within Grok itself. Notably, the video capability can produce clips up to 15 seconds long and includes native audio, marking it as the second western AI model to support this functionality, following Google’s Veo 3.
Grok Imagine has brought some of my favorite photos of my mom to life and I’m still blown away.
She passed away early 2002 so to see still photos of her accurately animated like this is especially moving.

Grok Imagine offers four distinct generation modes: Custom, Normal, Fun, and Spicy, allowing users to select a specific style for content creation. Additionally, a voice mode is available, enabling users to speak their prompts instead of typing them. Elon Musk, co-founder of xAI, has previously referred to Grok Image as “AI Vine,” an allusion to the now-closed short video social networking site.
The Spicy mode has sparked debate and curiosity online, with some users expressing interest in its capability to produce NSFW content. Although it does not enable the generation of nude imagery, many users have observed that the outputs leave little to the imagination, based on their posts on X, formerly known as Twitter.
In contrast to mainstream chatbot counterparts like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, which enforce strict content moderation and prohibit the creation of inappropriate images or videos, Grok provides a different approach. In another post, Musk declared that Grok Imagine generated an impressive 34 million images within the first two days of its launch.
