Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has launched as a standalone app for iOS users. Following nearly a month of beta testing, the app is now accessible, incorporating all features found in its web counterpart. Users can generate images and conduct web-based searches without needing to log in to their X (formerly known as Twitter) accounts. Interestingly, while the app’s launch was primarily announced for the US, it has also been functional in India.
Grok Is Now Available as an iOS App
xAI shared the news of Grok’s iOS app release through a post on its official X account. The announcement emphasized that users can utilize the app’s features without having to log in. However, signing into an X account enhances the user experience by personalizing interactions with the chatbot.
The official information regarding the app’s release points to its availability in the US, but users from India have successfully downloaded and operated the app as well.

Upon installation, users are directed to a fresh chat window where they can start engaging with the chatbot. The iOS version of Grok enables conversations, generation of images, real-time web and X searches, as well as composition of essays and emails. Unlike the web version, these functionalities do not require users to be logged into the app.
The app further allows users to sign in using either their X account or an Apple account. Using an X account enables integration with chats from the web platform, offering a more tailored experience. Preliminary testing of the iOS app showed no issues with latency or performance glitches.
The App Store listing indicates that the iOS app operates on the Grok 2 AI model, the same advanced language model employed in both the free and premium web versions. However, the Fun mode appears to be missing, potentially limited to X Premium and X Premium+ subscribers.
