The integration of Grok into the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) now allows users to summon the AI chatbot directly in the top-level replies of posts. When users tag Grok in their replies, the chatbot can respond to a range of inquiries, even those that are not clearly articulated. It is equipped with the capability to interpret images and videos, enabling it to engage with posts that include media content.
Grok Can Be Summoned in Replies on X
In recent weeks, the platform, owned by Elon Musk, has introduced a Grok button in various locations. This button is available in the post creation area, on the side margin of the website, and in the app’s bottom menu. It serves multiple purposes, including post explanations and profile summaries, and is also available as a standalone button in the bottom right corner of the website.
Despite these additions, developers have now enabled users to summon Grok specifically in post replies. By tagging “@grok” followed by a question or prompt, users can receive timely responses from the AI chatbot. Observers from Gadgets 360 have noted instances of users engaging with Grok in both text-based posts and those accompanied by images or videos.
Upon being tagged, Grok automatically gains contextual insight from the original post, allowing users to ask broad questions such as “explain this,” with the chatbot still able to reference the content of the post. Furthermore, the tool supports web searches, providing real-time information across various scenarios. It is important to note that Grok can only be summoned in the top-level comments; asking it to reply to another reply does not function as intended.
In a parallel development, Perplexity has launched its own AI chatbot. The company’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, announced that users can summon this bot by tagging @AskPerplexity in a reply, which will prompt the chatbot to answer the inquiry. However, users should be aware that follow-up questions are not permitted with either Grok or the Perplexity chatbot.
