xAI, the artificial intelligence company owned by Elon Musk, has quietly launched a free version of Grok, its AI chatbot. This native AI model is now accessible to all users on the social media platform X, though it comes with some restrictions. Users can interact with the Grok AI interface on both the desktop version and mobile app, and while there is a rate limit for free users, they can still utilize the chatbot’s full capabilities. xAI has also unveiled Grok 2, its latest and most advanced AI, for free-tier users.
Grok AI Now Available for Free
Initially introduced in November 2023, Grok AI was exclusively available to X subscribers on the Premium and Premium+ plans, which cost ₹566 and ₹1,133 per month, respectively. The company has now expanded access to all users; however, no formal announcement was made regarding the introduction of the free tier.
Staff members from Gadgets 360 discovered the Grok AI option on X, which can be utilized on the web platform and the mobile applications for both Android and iOS. It’s important to note that only the Grok 2 AI model is available to free users. Furthermore, users gain access to the Flux image generator, developed by Black Forest Labs.
Under the current free tier, users can ask a maximum of ten questions every two hours and are permitted to generate up to three images daily. The service also features a ‘Fun Mode’, which presents a humorous and sarcastic side of the chatbot. Grok AI possesses web access, allowing users to inquire about current events and live sports. When web search is utilized, Grok provides the URLs and source pages used to compile its responses.
Responses generated by Grok can be copied, and the resulting images can be saved. Users have the option to regenerate replies or share them directly to their X accounts.
How to Use Grok on X
- Visit the X website or launch the X mobile app.
- On the mobile app, find the Grok icon (a slash inside a square) at the bottom of the screen.
- In the desktop version, the icon will be located in the left margin.
- Click on the Grok icon to access the chatbot interface.
- Enter your prompt in the text field at the bottom of the screen.
