Google has disclosed the pricing structure for its Veo 2 artificial intelligence (AI) model, which is designed for video generation. The company, headquartered in Mountain View, California, will charge $0.50 (approximately Rs. 43) per second for users generating videos through its Vertex AI platform. Consequently, a one-minute clip generated with this AI technology will cost around $30 (approximately Rs. 2,600). However, it is worth noting that Google is also allowing select YouTube creators to use Veo 2 for generating video clips for Shorts at no cost.

Google’s Veo 2 AI Model Pricing on Vertex AI Revealed

On its pricing page, Google has clarified its charges for accessing the video generation capabilities of its Vertex AI model. Users will incur a cost of $0.50 per second when generating videos from text prompts using Veo 2. This pricing is notably higher compared to competitors offering similar video generation services at more budget-friendly rates.

To break down the expenses further, users can expect to pay $30 for one minute of video generation or approximately $1,800 (around Rs. 1,56,100) for an hour. It is important to consider that the generated videos may not consistently align with the prompts provided, resulting in some clips being potentially unusable.

In comparison, OpenAI, a major competitor in the AI field, provides a package of 50 20-second video generations using its Sora AI model for subscribers of ChatGPT Plus at a cost of $20, or Rs. 1,950 in India. This translates to approximately $1.20 or Rs. 120 per minute of video generation, in addition to other features included in the subscription. Pro subscribers benefit from a higher usage rate, though the specifics are not publicly disclosed.

Another competitor, Runway, offers an unlimited video generation experience through a $76 (around Rs. 6,590) monthly subscription. Likewise, Pika Lab provides 6,000 video generation credits with its most expensive subscription plan at $76 per month. Generating a five-second video using the Pika 2.1 model costs 60 credits, making the cost of one minute of video generation roughly $9.12 or Rs. 790.

The pricing landscape clearly indicates that most competitors provide video generation services at significantly lower rates. However, it should be noted that the figures mentioned reflect end-consumer pricing. Vertex AI, on the other hand, is typically utilized by developers and organizations, and enterprise pricing across other platforms is not made public.

Reports suggest that Google is also exploring video generation capabilities with its Gemini Advanced model, which may be launched in the latter half of the year. If implemented, depending on usage rates and potential subscription price adjustments, this could offer a more affordable option for generating videos using the Veo 2 model.
