Google has unveiled an innovative feature for its AI note-taking application, NotebookLM, designed to facilitate the gathering of web sources for summarization and narration. Users can now utilize the “Discover” button to explore topics of interest without the need to upload documents or links manually.

This feature, which began its rollout on Wednesday, is anticipated to reach all users within approximately one week, according to the company.

NotebookLM is equipped to sift through “hundreds of potential web sources in seconds,” as stated by Google. The tool analyzes relevant information and provides a curated list of up to ten source recommendations, each accompanied by a summary detailing its significance. Users have the flexibility to choose which sources are referenced in their notes and can integrate them into various features including FAQs, Briefing Docs, and audio-like overviews narrated by AI hosts.

By simply describing their topics of interest, users can rely on NotebookLM to conduct the necessary research.

Furthermore, sources identified will be stored within NotebookLM, enabling users to access them directly for citation purposes and to enhance their note-taking and question-answering experiences. Google emphasizes that the Discover feature is just the beginning, with additional Gemini-powered functionalities in development to assist users in locating pertinent reference materials.

Another newly introduced feature, “I’m Feeling Curious,” prompts NotebookLM to generate sources on entirely random topics. This fun tool allows users to explore new subjects and showcases the capabilities of the feature, reminiscent of Wikipedia’s random article function.
