On Tuesday, Google announced an enhancement to its NotebookLM platform, aimed at streamlining the way users can publicly share their notebooks. The new feature introduces a Share button, enabling users to create a shareable link for their notebooks, akin to the sharing options available in Google Docs and Slides. However, it’s important to note that viewers will not have editing rights; they can engage with the content and interact with the AI.
NotebookLM’s Notebook Sharing Is Not Available on the App
In a blog post, the tech giant detailed the rollout of this new feature. Previously, users could share their notebooks by inviting individuals via their email, provided those individuals had a Gmail account. This method permitted collaborative editing among invited users.
However, sharing with larger audiences posed challenges under this system. The newly introduced public sharing feature addresses this limitation. A new Share button has been added to the top right corner of the notebook interface, conveniently located beside the Settings button. This functionality mirrors that of other Google web applications.

Upon clicking the Share button, users will encounter a pop-up window displaying various options. Within this window, a new “Notebook Access” setting is available, which defaults to “Restricted.” Users can change this to “Anyone with a link” to broaden access. A “Copy link” button appears at the bottom of the pop-up, allowing users to copy the link for distribution.
This link can be easily disseminated through email, social media channels, or messaging applications, providing a swift method for sharing notebooks. This feature is particularly useful for students, educators, professionals, journalists, and researchers alike.
For those accessing the shared notebook, the platform provides several interactive options such as listening to AI-generated podcasts (audio summaries), reviewing briefing documents, exploring frequently asked questions (FAQs), and engaging with a chatbot to gain further insights into the notes. Notably, the public sharing functionality is not yet available in the NotebookLM applications for Android and iOS.
