On Tuesday, Google introduced a new feature for its Gemini chatbot aimed at enhancing user experience. The artificial intelligence (AI) tool can now craft personalized illustrated storybooks based on user-defined text prompts, images, or documents. Users have the flexibility to determine not only the artistic style of the storybook but also to include specific character names, settings, and plot elements. This innovative feature targets young children who enjoy bedtime stories and is accessible to all users worldwide through both its website and mobile applications.
Gemini Now Allows Creation of Storybooks with Uploaded Visuals
In a detailed blog entry, Google outlined the rollout of this new capability to all Gemini users, including those using the free version. Storybook creation can be initiated directly within the chatbot interface, where users can begin a prompt with “Create/Generate a storybook…” followed by the chosen story topic and the intended age group for readers. Moreover, users can specify character names, settings, and preferred art styles.
The Gemini storybook feature supports an array of art styles, such as pixel art, comics, claymation, and coloring book styles. It can be utilized in 45 different languages, with each story accommodating up to 10 pages. Each page layout includes text on the right side paired with an accompanying illustration on the left.
In addition to the visual elements, the feature includes an audio narration option for users who prefer listening to the stories instead of reading them. However, the narration voice is robotic, differing from the more natural-sounding voice found in Gemini Live.

Staff members at Gadgets 360 had the opportunity to test this new feature, and reported that the chatbot successfully generated a complete storybook in just a few minutes. This included a title page along with ten individual story pages, while accurately following the nuances specified in the prompts. No inconsistencies or inaccuracies were observed in the AI-generated images.
According to Google, users can also upload personal photos to create a storybook featuring themselves instead of generic characters. Additionally, users can transform their own written documents into illustrated books using AI. Beyond entertaining children with bedtime stories, this feature has potential educational applications, providing a means to explain complex topics to young learners.
