Google appears to be making adjustments to the Gemini overlay window on Android devices. A Reddit user posted a screenshot on Friday showcasing a new user interface that activates when the Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) assistant is called up via voice command or manually. Several other users responded to the post, reporting similar observations on their Android devices. The redesigned overlay is characterized by a slim rectangular box featuring only three interactive icons, in contrast to the previously larger square format.
Gemini Might Be Getting a Redesigned Overlay
User amitsama92 shared a post in the GooglePixel subreddit, highlighting the new Gemini overlay. According to the user, they are using a Pixel 9 Pro and have observed the overlay on the Gemini for Android app version 1.0.686588308. They also mentioned having a Gemini Advanced subscription, although it’s uncertain what led to the new interface being available to them.
Despite these reports, the new Gemini overlay does not seem to be widely implemented. Staff members from Gadgets 360 did not find the new interface on several Android devices. While some users in the thread confirmed seeing the new interface, others noted that they had not experienced the change.

The new Gemini overlay, based on the shared screenshot, features a slender rectangular floating window outlined with a neon pink-and-blue glow. Inside, a plus icon is located near the left edge, while a microphone and the Gemini Live icon are on the right. The phrase ‘Ask Gemini’ accompanies the plus icon.
Interestingly, the new overlay lacks the greeting message found in the current version. The interface’s top-right section does not display the full-screen button either. Additionally, the color scheme has shifted; the previous dark grey backdrop seems to have been swapped for a white one. Moreover, the new design omits the sparkle icon that used to appear at the top of the overlay.
No official statement regarding this interface change has been made, and aside from the Reddit post, no other sources confirm this development. 9to5Google also reported not finding devices featuring the new design. Thus, the updated interface may be in an early testing phase with restricted access. An official announcement from Google will be necessary to determine if the new Gemini interface is indeed on the horizon.
