On Tuesday, Google introduced an innovative feature to its Gemini chatbot, enhancing the user experience by enabling the AI to create customized illustrated storybooks. By utilizing text prompts, images, or documents uploaded by users, Gemini can generate storybooks tailored to individual preferences. Readers can specify elements such as character names, settings, and even narrative themes. This new functionality is particularly aimed at young children who delight in bedtime stories and is accessible to users worldwide via both the website and mobile applications.
Gemini Offers Storybook Generation with Uploaded Images
In a recent blog post, Google elaborated on the details of this feature, which is now available to all Gemini users, inclusive of those utilizing the free version. The storybook creation process can be initiated directly within the chatbot, prompting users to start with “Create/Generate a storybook…” followed by their chosen story topic and the intended reader’s age. Users also have the option to include specific character names, settings, and desired art styles.
The Gemini storybook feature accommodates a variety of artistic styles such as pixel art, comics, claymation, crochet, and coloring books. It can generate stories in 45 different languages, with each story encompassing up to 10 pages, where text is displayed on the right side paired with corresponding illustrations on the left.
A unique aspect of the feature is the inclusion of audio narration, catering to users who prefer listening to the story. However, the voice used for narration is robotic and differs from the more natural-sounding voice found in Gemini Live.

Staff members from Gadgets 360 had the opportunity to test the new feature, reporting that the chatbot could generate a complete storybook within minutes, including a title page, illustrations, and ten story pages. Impressively, the AI adhered closely to the specific nuances outlined in the prompts—such as genre and setting—without any noticeable inconsistencies in the generated images.
Google further indicated that users can upload their personal photos to create stories featuring themselves, moving beyond generic characters. Additionally, users can transform their own written stories into illustrated books using the AI functionality. Beyond just entertaining children with bedtime tales, the tech giant envisions this feature as a tool for teaching young learners complex subjects from their educational curricula.
