Google is enhancing its Workspace offerings by rolling out new features powered by its Gemini AI, aimed at simplifying the information retrieval process in PDFs and Google Form responses.
The file summarization capabilities, now inclusive of PDFs and Google Forms, enable users to quickly access key details and insights without the need for extensive manual searches. In Google Drive, when a user opens a PDF, Gemini will proactively generate summary cards that include clickable actions related to the document’s content. These options may include prompts like “draft a sample proposal” or “list interview questions based on this resume,” streamlining tasks within the Drive side panel.
This feature is being introduced in over 20 languages, with the rollout for Google Workspace users commencing on June 12. However, the full availability may take several weeks to finalize.
In addition to PDF enhancements, a similar Gemini function is being introduced for Google Forms. This new feature summarizes responses to short-answer or paragraph questions, drawing on the form’s title, description, and existing responses to identify central themes and insights. Users will find this option in the Responses tab once a question receives more than three answers. Initially, this feature will be available only in English, with wide availability beginning on June 26.
The new Google Form summaries are designed to expedite the information-gathering process, alleviating the need to open each response individually.
Furthermore, Google is unveiling a “help me create” feature in Google Forms that automatically generates forms based on user-provided descriptions. Workspace users can refer to related documents from Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, or PDFs to enrich their prompts and have Gemini incorporate these elements. For example, a carpentry business could utilize its product catalog to create a quote estimation form for customer outreach.
This “help me create” tool will also showcase sample templates for users to explore. Currently available in English, this feature is set to roll out to regular Workspace domains on July 7.
